The Belianska Cave

Belianska cave The Belianska Cave was discovered in 1881, and a year later the settlement Tatranska Kotlina was initiated. Located within the Tatra National Park (TANAP), the Belianska Cave is 1.752 m in length.

The cave boasts calcite waterfalls, pagoda-like stalagmites and lakes. Eight kinds of bat inhabit the cave and there is a naturally-formed "music auditorium" in which concerts are held.

The cave features sterile ventillation, constant air temperature of 5oC, 95% humidity and total absence of allergens. Together, this creates excellent conditions for allergic therapy. Four medical houses were built around, later to be changed to curative sanatoriums for treating general respiratory conditions. In addition to that a new pavilion that which specialized in applying speleotherapy (respiratory therapy in natural caves) was established.

The Belianska Cave is of course open to the public (1.135 m of total length), and the settlement Tatranska Kotlina also serves as a small tourist resort.
